Scan Or Upload Photo
What do you need?
How Scan & Solve Works, Step by Step
Scan & Solve is built for the exact moment every student knows too well: you're deep in your homework, one specific question stops you cold, and there's no teacher around to ask. Instead of leaving that question half-done or guessing at the answer, you photograph it and let AI do what a patient tutor would do — read it carefully, understand what's actually being asked, and walk you through the answer one step at a time.
- Take or upload a clear photo of the question — a textbook page, a worksheet, or something your teacher wrote on the board. You can also type the question directly if a photo isn't convenient.
- Choose what you need: a full Solution with working shown, a Similar Question to test whether you actually understood the method (not just this one answer), a Quiz From Photo to check your grasp of the surrounding concept, or a Summary of Photo if the image is more of a passage or diagram you need explained.
- Read the response right there on the page — no downloads, no waiting for an email, no sign-up wall in the way.
Getting the Best Results from a Photo
Since Scan & Solve reads the actual image you upload, photo quality matters more than almost anything else. A few small habits make a big difference:
- Good lighting: avoid deep shadows across the page — natural daylight or a bright room light works best.
- Fill the frame: get close enough that the question is large and legible, without excess blank page around it.
- Keep it flat and straight: a curled textbook page or an angled shot can distort text and diagrams, making them harder to read correctly.
- One question at a time works best: if a page has several questions, cropping to just the one you need usually gives a more focused, accurate answer.
- Diagrams and graphs are supported too — geometry figures, circuit diagrams, graphs, and maps can all be read alongside the text of the question.
What Kind of Questions Can Scan & Solve Handle?
This tool isn't limited to one subject. Students commonly use it for:
- Mathematics: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus — equations, word problems, and proofs, with every working step shown so you can follow the logic, not just copy the final number.
- Science: physics numericals, chemistry equations and reactions, biology diagrams and labeled figures.
- Social Science & History: long-answer and analytical questions where the "solution" is really a well-structured explanation rather than a single number.
- English & Language: comprehension passages, grammar questions, and literature analysis questions.
The Four Tools Inside Scan & Solve
📖 Solution
This is the core tool — upload your question, and get a complete, step-by-step explanation of how to reach the answer. It's built to teach the method, not just state the final answer, so the next time a similar question shows up in a test, you already know how to approach it.
🔁 Similar Question
Understanding one worked example is good; being able to solve a slightly different version of it yourself is what actually tells you whether you've learned the concept. This tool generates a new practice question built on the same underlying idea as your photo, along with its own solution, so you can test yourself immediately.
📝 Quiz From Photo
Sometimes a single question is really a doorway into a bigger topic. This tool turns the concept behind your photographed question into a short multiple-choice quiz, so you can check whether you've understood the broader idea, not just this one instance of it.
📋 Summary of Photo
If what you've photographed is more of a passage, a diagram-heavy page, or a dense paragraph rather than a single solvable question, Summary of Photo breaks it down into clear, structured bullet points — useful for quickly understanding a textbook page you're revising rather than answering a specific numerical question.
A Note on Accuracy
Scan & Solve is powered by Google's Gemini AI, which is genuinely strong at reading both text and diagrams from photos — but like any AI system, it isn't infallible. Handwriting that's very messy, photos that are blurry or poorly lit, or unusually niche questions can occasionally lead to an imperfect reading of the question or an imperfect answer. If a solution doesn't look quite right, try retaking the photo with better lighting, or cross-check the answer with your textbook or teacher — especially for anything exam-critical. You can read more about how we think about AI accuracy in our Terms & Conditions.
Your Photos and Your Privacy
When you upload a photo, it's sent securely to our AI provider purely to generate your answer — we don't permanently store the images on our own servers, and they're not used for anything beyond answering your question. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Pairing Scan & Solve with Other Tools
Scan & Solve tends to work best alongside the rest of Back Bencher Class. After you've cleared up a tricky question here, head to the home page study generator to build a full quiz on that chapter, or check out Flashcards to lock in the key terms for long-term recall. If it's exam season, our Question Paper Generator can turn the whole chapter into a timed mock paper once you feel ready.
